Phillip Lim's spring 2009 menswear collection is all about color and refined nonchalance. A specific silhouette predominates: double-breasted boxy jackets and baggy shorts or tapered-ankle trousers while the chromatics is a mix of pale watercolors (sea green, petal rose, spearmint, powder blue) with vivid, creamy hues (like poppy red, tangerine, saffron, mustard, amber), neutrals (ash and heather grey, sand and stone beige, cream), lots of blues (shades named gunmetal, twilight or royal blue) and fresh, earthy tones (mocha, olive and moss green).
3.1 Phillip Lim spring 2009 lookbook - 1
Designer's inspiration for spring 2009 is said to be Spain and its matadors (suggested by graphic prints) though the loose, pleated yellow tapered ankle pants and boxy jackets in bright colors are more David Bowie's eighties look.
Named, as a compliment, "ChloƩ for menswear" Phillip Lim is acknowledged for his understated, cool, polished aesthetics that praise a unidentifiable, individual looks. The spring 2009 collection also brings a complete range of covetable accessories and some of Phillip's "classics": the military inspired trenchcoat, the multi-pocket shirt and a very dandy single-breasted blazer.
